Brief history of Hotspots
The worlds most remarkable places are also the most threatened. These are called “Hotspots,” coined by Norman Myers in 1988. They are the richest and most threatened reservoirs of plant and animal life on Earth.
Due to destruction caused by humans, hotspots now cover just 2.3% of the Earth’s land surface - yet 77% of all vertebrate species and 50% of the world’s plant species call the hotspots home.
